Sblurp

Podman

Podman runs the server as a systemd service from a Quadlet file. Podman can update the image every day, and goes back to the old one if the new one does not start.

Install

  1. Copy deploy/podman/sblurp-server.container to /etc/containers/systemd/.

  2. Put your settings in /etc/sblurp/server.env. Use the same keys as env.example in Docker and Compose:

    SBLURP_BASE_URL=https://chat.example.com
    SBLURP_NAME=My Community
    SBLURP_TRUSTED_ISSUERS=https://sblurp.chat

  3. Start it:

    systemctl daemon-reload
    systemctl start sblurp-server

  4. Turn on automatic updates:

    systemctl enable --now podman-auto-update.timer

  5. Put a reverse proxy in front of 127.0.0.1:8080. See TLS and reverse proxies.

  6. Join your community first. The first person to join becomes the owner.

The Quadlet file

[Unit]
Description=Sblurp community server

[Container]
Image=ghcr.io/OWNER/sblurp-server:stable
AutoUpdate=registry
EnvironmentFile=/etc/sblurp/server.env
User=65532
Group=65532
ReadOnly=true
Volume=sblurp-data:/data
PublishPort=127.0.0.1:8080:8080

[Service]
Restart=always

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

AutoUpdate=registry lets podman-auto-update.timer pull a newer image for the tag. To change the track, change the tag in Image=. To stop updates, pin a version such as :1.2.3.
