MCP
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, lets an AI agent use tools from other apps. Every Sblurp community is an MCP server. Add it to an agent such as Claude Code, and the agent can read channels, search, and post as you.
The agent signs in with your sblurp.chat account. You do not copy any token. The agent opens a sblurp.chat page in your browser, you allow it, and it gets access to that one community only.
The address
The MCP address is the community's address with /mcp at the end. For a community at https://chat.example.com, it is:
https://chat.example.com/mcp
You must be a member of the community first. Join it in the Sblurp app, then add it to your agent.
Claude Code
Run this in a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http sblurp https://chat.example.com/mcp
Start Claude Code, type /mcp, choose sblurp and then Authenticate. Your browser opens a sblurp.chat page that asks you to allow Claude Code. Choose Allow.
To add it for every project, add --scope user after add.
Claude Desktop and claude.ai
Open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. Paste the address and choose Connect. Claude connects from Anthropic's servers, so this works only for a community that is on the public internet.
VS Code
Add this to .vscode/mcp.json in your project, or run MCP: Add Server from the command palette:
{
"servers": {
"sblurp": { "type": "http", "url": "https://chat.example.com/mcp" }
}
}
Other clients
Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth should work. Give it the address. The client finds the rest on its own:
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Protected resource metadata | https://chat.example.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource |
| Authorization server metadata | https://sblurp.chat/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server |
| Client registration | https://sblurp.chat/oauth/register (dynamic registration, public clients with PKCE) |
Sblurp accepts redirect addresses that use https, or http on localhost, 127.0.0.1 or [::1]. Cursor signs in through a cursor:// link, which Sblurp does not accept yet.
Tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
list_channels |
Lists the channels and direct messages you can see. |
read_messages |
Reads the latest messages in a channel or a thread, with older pages. |
search_messages |
Searches messages, in one channel or in all of them. |
post_message |
Posts in a channel, or replies in a thread. |
send_direct_message |
Sends a direct message to a member. |
list_members |
Lists members, with their role and whether they are online. |
The agent has the same permissions you have in that community. It cannot see a private channel you are not in, and it cannot moderate unless you can. Everything it posts shows as you.
Stop an agent
On sblurp.chat, go to Account, then Security. Under Connected agents, choose Remove next to the agent. It stops working within 15 minutes. Signing out the browser where you allowed it also stops it.
Bots instead
An agent you connect with MCP acts as you. To run an agent that posts as its own bot member, use a bot token instead. See AI agents.
